Have you ever thought about the selfishness of compassion. The concept that giving and compassion, can not only help others but it can also help you feel happy within yourself. So it’s a win-win situation really, isn’t it? You not only help others but you also get rewarded yourself, in happiness.

Sally bought Reuben one of those terry toweling jump suits today. It was hard to stay selfless about that though because I’ve always wanted a pair for myself. Imagine it reclining back on the couch watching the football, covered head to toe in snuggly warm terry toweling. I’m thinking of commissioning one.  I don’t know if I’d go as far as ordering a man sized pram to go with it. But I have thought about it before. There’s not much chance of getting your  missus to push you down to the pub in one but, is there? Sally went through all of Reuben’s clothes today. Sorting out the ones he has already outgrown and the ones he’s yet to grow in to. He’s got more clothes than me already. But I suppose I’d have a lot of clothes too if I crapped my pants every day.

I knew I was becoming a real dad today when I started gathering stats about Reuben’s growth percentiles. I don’t think I’d even said the word percentile till today. “Oh yeah he’s in the top percentile.” I’m going to be saying it all the time now hey. About everything. I’ll be pulling out stats wherever I go. “Oh rolling over, yeah my son’s in the top percentile for that.” “Projectile vomits? Yeah my sons in the top percentile for that.” Well, his actually just sort of ooze down the chin at the moment. But I’m sure with a bit of training he’ll definitely get up around the 75% range. I love thinking of all the possibilities he has ahead of him. He could become a race car driver, mountain climber, professional surfer, accountant…. on second thought. We just finished watching a movie about some guys who died trying to climb a mountain. I’m taking it back to the video store tomorrow to ask for a refund. It must be broken, they didn’t make it to the top.

The thought of a man size snugglesuit has crossed my mind many a time, if it’s cheaper to get two made count me in!
